Sara Curran Ice Designs

  Costume Designer and Educator

As an educator, I have 15 years of experience in a college or university setting and as a costume designer/technician and projectionist/cameraperson I have more than 20 years of professional experience.  I have lived in 4 different states and worked in 21 states including Hawaii, Alaska, and Puerto Rico.  The fact that I have been able to travel as part of my career has been a bonus.  I love to travel to other places to see different cultures and to immerse myself in other ways of being.

The Growth Mindset is a big part of my work and design philosophy.  I am a firm believer that one should never stop learning and that there are many different ways to learn. There is joy in those moments when a student or a colleague shares with me a new skill or idea that can make our work better.   During the last year, I have taken the opportunity to learn more about classroom management, the EDIJ process in education and design, and curriculum development through platforms like LinkedIn Learning and Alison.com, and organizations like SETC and USITT.

For fun, I like to hike and go on photography adventures in my local area.  A couple of my friends and I spend the weekends out in nature learning about our cameras and enjoying the outdoors.  We have played around with long exposure, night photography, and macro photography.  These photography skills help me see the world and design with a more vibrant and distinct lens.

My educational background includes a BA in Theatre from Illinois State University and an MFA from the University of California, Irvine in Costume Design.  Currently, I am the Technical Theatre Program Coordinator and Resident Costume Designer at PCPA – Pacific Conservatory Theatre.   If you are interested in my work please contact me at saraicedesigns@gmail.com  I would love the opportunity to meet and work with new people.
